Day 220: Sax in the Park, Pt. 2

Morning Practise (Watercolour)

Morning Practise (Watercolour)

For the next stage of this painting I began to add the tree trunks and foliage, starting with a roughish green wash, wet into wet. It got a bit too wet so I blotted some out again and got some unexpected water marks on the left which I love. I wonder if I can engineer some more…

The tree trunks were fun as I tried to dry brush colour in without too much control. Some of it worked well and some not so – you can see where the brush strokes dried a bit too quickly around the roots, before I had time to work them, leaving hard edges. I remember saying a while ago that I need to work out a way to get darker browns, and so far I still haven’t. So there’s some research for tomorrow 🙂 The colours are all looking a bit flat too, a bit too well mixed perhaps so there’s no variation. A good start though.
