Day 107: Last of the Roses

Last of the Roses (Watercolour)

What a beautiful weekend we’ve had, the weather has been fantastic! I was preparing myself to start the lamb picture but was taken in by a nearby garden which has one or two final roses blooming. They are especially striking because of the enormous rose-hips that are growing there too… you may remember I painted some earlier in the year? These are the same ones still on the bush.

I was also especially driven to do some loose, bold painting after the last couple of very controlled pieces, and dived into this with great intentions! So, the ‘loose’ seems OK but the ‘bold’ unfortunately came a little bit harder. I’m not entirely keen on the green that I ended up with, and the rose-hips worked much better last time… but these things can be fixed (I now know).

Anyway, it was certainly a good bit of fun after a day spent undercoating windows, and I’m looking forward to the return of Chinese painting classes tomorrow which will bring a different perspective to everything.
