Day 110: Last of the Roses Pt. 3

It was another beautiful, warm, sunny Autumn day today… the quality of the light is almost unnatural, so clear and blue, somewhat similar to how this picture is turning out. To me it seems to be growing oriental in feel and style. It certainly wasn’t a deliberate direction, but I do like it 🙂

It’s actually my first painting ever that has developed it’s own style almost without my awareness. This aspect of creating was discussed when I was in Wollongong two weeks ago, that pictures can take on their own identity and dictate what needs to come next and where…. at the time I was just disgruntled that mine never did, but now I think I’m beginning to understand. It’s an odd feeling while it’s happening but I’m pleased with how it’s evolving.

I still need to sort out the petals – this afternoon I was getting quite confused by which was placed in front of which, which was a soft edge, which a hard one. Now that there’s some colour on all of them perhaps it will be easier. And of course there are some leaves that need to be joined up with branches, and some more foliage to add.
