Day 16: Going to the dogs

I’ve been following tutorials by Jean Haines again today, practising painting dog features in watercolour. The first sheet, as you can hopefully tell, is all of doggie noses. Some are better than others… you can perhaps get a better idea of the effect I’m attempting from her online gallery.

From there I started practicing eyes, resulting in this second sketch. By trying to find the right spacing for them I ended up with a nose as well – mind you, the placing didn’t really work very well and the nose should be further to the right.

As it happens it still looks like a dog (yay!), just nothing like the dog I was using for reference! A gentle reminder to myself that I’m not quite ready to paint without guidelines on the paper to work from.
