Day 20: The Crocuses that croaked

Crocus mess
Crocus mess

It had to happen, I’m quite surprised it’s taken so long really… hands, eyes, brain and paintbrush are not communicating today at all. It’s raining, we have thunderstorms in fact, so I’m working by artificial light and the wet paint is reflecting back at me, but that’s just excuses.

I persisted for almost two hours, and I was hoping that eventually one area would yield a result so I could at least feel like I’d learnt something, but it’s definitely getting worse. I even resorted to just trying a single crocus in the bottom corner, but to no avail. Things simply aren’t connecting and so I’ve really made the most amazing mess 🙂 This is one for the bin indeed! Ho hum, back with a clear head tomorrow.

I suppose things I’ll take away from this exercise would be… the initial wash was perhaps too dark and I need to look at the staining quality & transparency of my paints – it got rather grubby in the middle trying to paint yellow & purple over each other. Oh, and I REALLY need more practice to grasp negative painting!
