Day 202: Playing with Flames

Flame Tree (Watercolour)
Flame Tree (Watercolour)

While I was walking the dog this morning I spotted one of my favourite sights of this time of year, a flash of brilliant red up in the trees. I only know of them as Flame trees, the first one I ever saw was in the Botanic Gardens ten years ago.

Having done some internet searching today I’m actually no wiser – there seem to be quite a selection of trees around the world that are known as flame trees, all different, and while I can find some names, there’s nothing attached to one that looks like these with their bright red fingers of ‘flame’ that appear briefly and then fall before the proper leaves grow.

This is actually my third attempt at these today, trying again to be loose, and it’s the only one that looks promising enough to continue with. I like the mix of colours and some of the accidental effects, maybe it should have started off as a bit lighter wash… I’ll find out tomorrow when I try to add more paint to it 🙂
