Day 225: Morning Saxophone Practice, Pt. 3

Morning Practice (Watercolour)
Morning Practice (Watercolour)

Today I’ve added another stage to the saxophone picture, with the most obvious change being the addition of leaves to the tree – probably a bit too vivid a green because I was trying to mix a good strong shade just as the light was fading (yes, left it late again).

It’s quite subtle and hard to notice but there’s also another wash on the tree trunks, with shades of yellow and Sap Green to add some variation as they were looking a bit flat. I think they still need a bit more contrast added at some stage too.

I’m also going to have to do something with the figure and his instrument case…how obvious is it that I’m avoiding this bit? Perhaps tomorrow will be the day :-). He’s lacking almost any detail in my reference picture, completely shaded and dark with a bright halo on the edge towards the sun, and I think this is what’s making me hesitate.
