Day 265:The Fearless Skink

Fearless Skink (Graphite)
Fearless Skink (Graphite)

We had a trip into Sydney today, Mum, Dad and me, which resulted in a visit to the Chinese Garden of Friendship. It’s an oasis right in the heart of the city, with lakes and Koi, pavilions and waterfalls…. a great place if you’re looking for inspiration.

And of all the things we saw and wondered at I was most taken by a brave bronze skink that wandered onto the path, amongst the half term crowds of visitors, and sat there while I took half a dozen close up photos. Then it trotted onto a nearby rock and posed for a few more.

I don’t think I’ve really done it justice with my scruffy sketch tonight – the head is a really tricky shape to get right and I lost my highlight whites with all the corrections I made. I also misjudged his length and so his very long tail runs off the page. What a shame to lose one of his best bits 🙂
