Day 329: More Sunsets, (Are you feeling calm yet?)

Sunset No. 3 (Watercolour)
Sunset No. 3 (Watercolour)

More sunsets… and I’m going to keep practising until I find one I like (that will also fit the subject), but I promise you won’t have to see all of them! I was quite pleased with these two so I thought I’d share them.

They’re mostly wet into wet washes, which is why they’re so soft. Except for the second one which got a second coat of Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna on the water… with this I tried to get some dry brush strokes happening to suggest sunlight glinting. I think had the glazing wash been just a little darker it might have worked perfectly.

Colour-wise I prefer the second, but would also like to introduce at least a little bit of the pink from the first somewhere. While I like the simplicity of the first I’m worried that it’s abstract qualities will make it difficult to add a realistic subject to. The second has some fantasy like elements without being too otherworldly, and is growing on me rapidly :-).
