Lorikeet & Jacaranda, Pt. 2

Lorikeet enjoying the Jacaranda Blossom (Watercolour)

It rained almost all day today, a really wet Saturday… this gave me a good excuse to lounge around and do very little, reminding me of being small and Saturday’s that consisted of fetching and reading comics all morning while it poured outside. Me and my brothers would each buy our favourite & when we’d read our own we’d all swap… Or I might be sitting on the floor of my bedroom trying to copy pictures from greeting cards or out of books, listening to the rain on the windows.

Of course that’s the rose coloured version, more likely we’d be fighting over the comics and I’d be staring out of my bedroom window at the rain, freezing cold and bored to tears, but still trying to avoid doing homework – no central heating in our house in those days!

As you can see I did spend an hour or so painting today, but I’m disappointed how it’s progressed, I obviously didn’t warm up enough… to be honest I didn’t really have a plan for how the blossoms would work, and so they didn’t. And the branches were heavy and dark and too solid, until I washed them off again. They look much better now, but I couldn’t save the flowers – still a bit heavy and messy. Maybe I need to get some more on the paper, so there’s more than one bunch to take the focus…
