The Perfect Spot, Pt. 5

Snoozing (watercolour)
Snoozing (watercolour)

I’ve been finding it really difficult over the past week or two to set aside any time for painting, somehow the days just whiz by and I’m not getting anything done… Occasionally this doesn’t seem too bad and I have a quiet evening relaxing without feeling I have to cram something creative into the day.

At other times, like today, I’m acutely aware that I’m losing so much practise time. I miss it immensely… I haven’t held a paintbrush for days and days… So despite being worn out, with tired eyes from doing website and database work all day, I snuck out to the kitchen after dinner this evening and turned on a work lamp (the nights are drawing in) to fiddle with this painting of Flint snoozing on the back step.

I know this isn’t the best time to practise and the light is wrong… and I haven’t done any warm up so the first half hour will break all my previous work… but it had to be done 🙂 I decided I’d rather paint and make a mess than miss another session. Luckily I think it’s repairable, or workable at least – his nose might be a bit small and the paint wasn’t flowing very well for me, but it’s still got something. I haven’t thought of a plan to tackle the black fur yet either, and that’s going to be the biggest challenge.
