Day 264: First Rose, Pt. 2

1st Rose (Watercolour)

1st Rose (Watercolour)

Another apology to Sam & Jake, I still couldn’t find the patience to continue painting the Turkmenian Owl (I’ll change the title, promise), so I had another session on the rose – it’s so close to loosing all the petals that I thought I’d better carry on while I have something to refer to!

I’ve been trying to add more shading over all today, leaves and petals. It was difficult to create exactly the same lighting as yesterday but it’s not far out, I think. I’m struggling to get the really shadowed areas using just Alizarin Crimson, but I’m not really sure what to mix with it to make it deeper. The real flower is quite a bit darker and more velvety than this, but they’re not the easiest aspects to capture.
