Day 366? or Day 1 of a New System

Dozing on the Train (Graphite)

So, the 2013 challenge is complete… a picture a day for a full year, tick! 🙂 what now? As I mentioned last week, I still want to paint every day, I will also try and publish every day too – it’s been such a good discipline for me and I’ve enjoyed it too! Of course there have been days when I’m too tired or other things are happening, but somehow there’s always time (discounting technical emergencies that I have no control over!).

My intentions for the coming year are to try and make more time, and put more heart into my practise… in effect, to push my learning a little bit harder if I can – I feel there have been many days where I found ‘just enough time’, and many times where I chose something to get by, without stretching myself. Maybe I’m thinking it’s time to take myself a bit more seriously? Hopefully not too much :-P.

I’ve been gallery sitting in Wollongong this afternoon (yes, plenty of time to ponder and put my world to rights!) So today’s sketch was done on the train… however, today I was travelling at a time when there were other people aboard as well, so I had live subject matter :-P. I’m really not used to drawing from life so I’m fairly pleased with this sketch of the girl sitting in front of me, especially as she kept moving every few minutes (of course).

  1. What a brilliant achievement Kerry, I can’t even commit to one aftyernoon a month, and some really super work including this terrific life drawing. Perhaps you ought to take a train journey every day,
you’ll never be short of material then !
    Well done X

  2. Well done for a whole year of dedication, perseverance and perspiration!!
We find it difficult to stick to something like this for even a week!
We’ve been privileged to share the year with you, and to see some lovely work (especially your graphite animals and paintings of Flint – Dad). The blog has made us feel some small part of the whole thing, and we’ve seen a real movement forward in your art.
Please do carry on, in whatever direction you decide.

We love you and we’re proud too.

    Mum and Dad.

    1. Thank you!! Thanks for reading and supporting and trying to help when I was stuck for any reason 🙂 Without someone on the other end I would probably not have kept it up! xxx

  3. Live subjects can be so inconsiderate. But you’ve definitely captured something convincing about this one. Good luck with your coming year’s endeavours Kez, I look forward to enjoying your efforts again this time around. x

    1. Thanks Moira, As I said to you the other day, I’m determined to practise with more self awareness this year, being present in the moment. So hopefully there’ll be fewer last minute ‘I just had to do something’ moments 😛 (Probably not though!)
