Day 93: Butterfly & Thistle, Pt. 3

I really enjoyed myself this morning painting the butterfly in this composition, in fact, I could almost wish I’d left it until last as everything else now seems less appealing.

I think I’m also going to have to try & make the background a bit darker too, and that’s going to be tricky without the masking! That green just looks a bit too vibrant and needs to be pushed backwards somehow. Perhaps once the thistles have been fully formed it’ll all fit together better, fingers crossed. I really don’t fancy trying to repaint around all those fiddly butterfly legs and fluffy thistle heads without the masking.

  1. What a stunning Butterfly ! How did you get those beautiful colours and effects where the wings join the body ? It’s such
    a delicate wash,

    1. Thanks, I wish I knew 🙂 I sort of brushed it on quite lightly, pushed it around a bit & then took some off again! I’m as surprised as you are how well it worked.
