Gallery Sitting with a Purpose…

Curly Sea Shell (Watercolour Crayon)
Curly Sea Shell (Watercolour Crayon)

I had a date with the Gallery that I volunteer for in Wollongong this afternoon, for a three hour stint of gallery minding which can sometimes be a bit lonely and tedious if there aren’t many people around. However, today I’d gone fully organised with sketchpad, watercolour crayons, brushes and even a subject.

I found this shell on a beach somewhere a few months ago, I can’t even remember where, and only rediscovered it recently when it suddenly began to rattle in the pocket of the car door as we were driving around. It’s not actually as colourful as this, but the crayons don’t do ‘subtle’ very well and it does look lovely in the blue 🙂

I’ve only really used these watercolour crayons once before, so I haven’t explored yet how they work or what effects you can achieve. I must say, I really enjoyed playing with them this afternoon even though they’re a bit garish, so I might have to spend some more time getting to know them properly.

  1. Keep the blue! Verisimilitude is so overrated. I thought you were going to say that, because you’d come prepared to do some work, you found there were heaps of people coming in and you never got a chance to even open your bag!! 😉
