Unexpected Pleasures – Gypsy Art Club @ Camelot Lounge, Marrickville

Sometimes life surprises you when you’re least expecting it and makes everything worthwhile…

Things haven’t been exactly wonderful lately as you’ll have gathered if you follow my posts regularly, so tonight has felt like a breath of fresh air filled with creativity and special surprises, and it all started with a local Council newsletter email. A link for their arts section lead to another link for events and before I knew it I was reading about a sketch night I’d never heard of held at a small jazz bar nearby – The Gypsy Art Club at the Camelot Lounge in Marrickville, NSW.

Held on Wednesday every week there’s a life model and music for two hours early evening, in the most bohemian of settings… with the opportunity to sip a little wine and eat pizza while you’re drawing…. fantastic fun, once you get past the stress of the very quick 5 minute warm up poses of the first half. But what a way to loosen up! This brief outline on the right is as far as I could get in the time limit, then the model was on the move to her next pose.

And fun didn’t end there… as we were packing up our gear to leave our host popped over to mention that the Wednesday Comedy Hump was about to start and we could pay the difference (only $5!) to stay and watch for the rest of the evening.

And so we did! I’ve just got home and I’m still grinning from ear to ear 🙂
